Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiation - This advanced procedure uses a computer to create a detailed 3-D image of a tumor. By seeing the nuances of the tumor's shape, our radiation oncologists can be even more accurate in targeting each dose of radiation.
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) - A state-of-the-art form of radiation therapy that uses computer-controlled X-rays to deliver precise radiation doses to the tumor. IMRT allows the radiation dose to conform more precisely to the 3-D shape of the tumor by controlling the intensity of the radiation beam. This precise treatment also minimizes the impact to surrounding tissue and critical organs. It is particularly effective for treating cancers of the prostate, head, neck and central nervous system.
High Dose-rate Brachytherapy (HDR) - An innovative form of internal radiotherapy, this treatment actually places the radiation inside your tumor - usually through a thin, temporary catheter. Like IMRT, it is effective at concentrating radiation where you need it most, while minimizing the impact on healthy tissue.
PET/CT Scan - This sophisticated digital imaging system allows us to quickly determine whether cancer is present, if it is spreading and whether your current treatment is working. One exam generates two types of medical images that are synthesized into one incredibly detailed composite. This provides us with extensive information about your condition. Our PET/CT scanner can be used to detect and monitor a wide variety of cancers including breast, lung, head and neck, and cervical, as well as melanoma and lymphoma.
CT-guided Biopsy - Computed tomography-guided biopsy is an advanced process for obtaining a sample of a potentially cancerous tumor or mass for evaluation. To more accurately target the tumor and minimize the damage to surrounding tissue, we use digital cross-sectional images of the body to guide us in collecting the sample.
Breast MRI - Among the most advanced of all diagnostic tools, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive system that uses a magnetic scanner, radio waves and computerized graphics to produce highly detailed images of body tissue. It can be extremely valuable in assessing breast abnormalities because it gives us a more detailed image than ultrasound or mammography. That, in turn, allows our physicians to make more accurate diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
Full-Field Digital Mammography with Computer Assisted Detection (CAD) - Another advanced tool for the detection of breast abnormalities, the full-field digital mammogram with CAD involves the use of computers to bring suspicious areas on a mammogram to the attention of our radiologists. Used after a radiologist has conducted an initial evaluation, this technology highlights areas that may merit further review and additional testing.
