In a new HealthGrades® study, Saint Joseph Hospital is recognized for a wide range of clinical achievements in 2009, including:
- Among the top 5 percent of U.S. hospitals for stroke care (second consecutive year)
- Five-star ratings, the highest level, in six clinical areas - cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (lung disease), heart failure, hip fracture repair, pneumonia and treatment of stroke.
- HealthGrades Stroke Care Excellence Award (sixth consecutive year)
HealthGrades, a health care ratings company, independently and objectively rated the quality of care for 28 procedures and diagnoses at nearly ever U.S. hospital - ranging from bypass surgery to knee replacement.
In addition, Saint Joseph was one of only four hospitals in Illinois and one of only 80 in the nation to earn both the Distinguished Hospital for "Clinical Excellence" and "Patient Safety" HealthGrades Awards. These two awards were announced in 2008.
